The IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card is offering an excellent new welcome bonus, offering the most bonus points we’ve ever seen as part of the bonus, all with the annual fee waived the first year.
New IHG Premier Card welcome bonus
The IHG Premier Card is now offering a massive bonus of 150,000 IHG Rewards Club points after spending $3,000 within the first three months. On top of that, the card’s $89 annual fee is waived for the first year.
Personally I value IHG Rewards Club points at 0.5 cents each, so to me this bonus is worth $750. That’s excellent.
150K points can get you quite a few hotel stays
Why you should get the IHG Premier Card
- IHG Rewards Club Platinum status just for having the card
- An anniversary free night certificate every year, valid at a property costing up to 40,000 points
- A fourth night free on award redemptions
- A Global Entry or TSA Pre-Check credit once every four years
For me, the annual free night certificate alone more than justifies the annual fee, and everything else is the icing on the cake.

IHG recently switched to dynamic award pricing
It’s worth noting that several weeks back, IHG Rewards Club switched to dynamic award pricing, with no caps on how many points are required for a free night redemption. While this is a devaluation, fortunately this isn’t quite as bad as we initially expected in terms of the redemption rates.
The dynamic pricing will work out well for some people, in the sense that some hotels that may not have been previously bookable with a free night certificate may now be bookable with it over select dates.
As I wrote in that post, though, this doesn’t fundamentally alter the value proposition of the IHG Premier Card. I have the card primarily for the anniversary free night certificate, IHG Rewards Club Platinum status, and the fourth night free.
I’ve just looked at all of the hotels where I’ve redeemed these certificates the last three times, and all still cost no more than 40,000 points on a vast majority of dates.
So while I don’t like these changes in terms of the value of the program overall, it doesn’t change my perception of the IHG Premier Card.
I’ve used a free night certificate at the InterContinental Johannesburg Airport
The IHG Premier Card has a phenomenal new welcome bonus of 150,000 IHG Rewards Club points upon completing minimum spending. This is an excellent offer if you don’t yet have the card.
While I don’t consider the IHG Rewards Club program to be competitive with some other hotel loyalty programs, I find the annual free night certificate, Platinum status, and fourth night free on award redemptions, to more than justify the $89 annual fee (which is even waived the first year, allowing you to essentially try the card before you have to “buy” it).
Anyone plan on picking up the IHG Premier Card with this great bonus?
